ABOUT NITIE

The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), established in 1963 by the Government of India, through the International Labour Organisation (ILO) with the assistance of United Nations Development Program (UNDP), has emerged as one of India's premier B-School over the years. NITIE is an autonomous body under the Ministry of HRD, Government of India and is governed by a Board of Governors comprising eminent personalities from government, academia and industry. It has been acknowledged as a centre of excellence along with the IITs, IIMs and IISc by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

PROGRAMMES

NITIE offers Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) which is its flagship programme. PGDIE was started in 1971 to systematically inculcate management principles into students & develop world class professionals who can undertake corporate challenges and handle complex industrial problems. PGDIE is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

The course structure of PGDIE, targeted to meet dynamic industrial requirements, comprises all the essential aspects of Industrial Engineering & Management such as Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, IT, Marketing & Finance. PGDIE has evolved as a course for developing managers with cross functional skills.

Besides, it also offers a Fellow programme at doctoral level (Ph.D.). Additionally, NITIE regularly conducts Management Development Programs (MDPs) in different areas of Industrial Engineering and Management. NITIE's Unit Based Programmes (UBPs) are tailor-made to requirements particular to requirements particular to organizations. NITIE trains over 2000 professionals every year through MDPs & UBPs, which are weeklong short courses.

Located in the picturesque surroundings of North Mumbai and flanked by Powai and Vihar lakes, it provides an ideal ambience for academic pursuits for young budding managers. NITIE has grown from strength to strength emerging as one of the premier B-schools of the country. The institute has served industry for four decades now and today its postgraduate curricula and management development programmes proudly reflect its symbiotic relationship with industry. NITIE is also engaged in applied research and offers professional consultancy services in various facets of management.

PHILOSOPHY
Taking cognizance of the dynamic requirements of today's economy, NITIE endeavors to combine 'the science' - the management of information systems, technology, finance, operations, and marketing, with 'the art' - creative problem solving, presentation, and team-building skills required greatly of the modern business administrator.

PEDAGOGY
Some things are best learnt through experience, not in the classroom. Perhaps the best laboratory for a management student is the industry itself and NITIE understands this well. As a result, a key feature of the NITIE pedagogy is its emphasis on practice.

NITIE's pedagogical methods spawn a live, learning attitude while nurturing constant interaction with real business enterprises and their problems. This prepares the student well to creatively and effectively cope with challenges inherent in the practice of management. This teaching tools are a combination of management fundamentals and technological basics taught in classrooms and a strong measure of practical, hands-on industry exposure through internships. The classrooms impart an optimum blend of theory and case studies. Collaborative learning is encouraged to help students discover that success is most meaningful when shared.
